Dane County Landfill

The Dane County Landfill accepts waste from Dane County residents and businesses.  We offer dumpsters near the scale house for unloading of small passenger vehicles.  Large loads are directed to the active filling area of the landfill for unloading.  If you have questions about site navigation or weighing in and out, scale house staff are available to assist you upon arrival.  While on-site remember these guidelines and safety procedures:

  • All loads must be secured with tie downs, a tarp or enclosed in a vehicle.  Exposed loads will not be accepted.
  • Waste is only accepted from Dane County residents. For a list of licensed solid waste facilities in Wisconsin visit the WDNR's website.
  • Follow all posted speed limits.
  • Please keep all children and pets in the car.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and attire.
Accepted Materials
  • Municipal solid waste
  • Mattresses & Box Springs
  • Furniture
  • Carpets and pads
  • Stoves, washers, and dryers
  • Construction & demolition debris for disposal or recycling
  • Tires (rims must be off) for recycling
  • Clean shingles (only asphalt shingles, nails, and tar paper) for recycling
  • Clean branches (no leaves, grasses, garden debris, or weeds) for recycling
  • Logs and wood chips for recycling
  • Invasive weeds bagged in clear bags and labeled "Invasive plants – approved by DNR for landfilling."
Materials NOT Accepted for Landfill Disposal

To conserve airspace, easily recycled or composted items are banned from landfill disposal.  Examples include: 

  • Freon containing appliances or dishwashers
  • Propane tanks
  • Cardboard
  • Aluminum containers
  • Yard waste (leaves, rootballs, stumps, grass, garden debris & weeds) - these items can be composted . Please note invasive weeds are accepted for landfill disposal.

To protect the environment, hazardous items are also banned from the landfill.  Examples include:

  • Waste oil
  • Toxic chemicals
  • Electronics
Special Waste Disposal

Asbestos will only be accepted at the County's Rodefeld Landfill, 7102 Maahic Way, Madison,Wisconsin, between 7:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. on the first Wednesday of each month, at a fee of $72 per ton.

  1. Complete Special Waste Form.
  2. Email completed permit to landfill scalehouse. 
  3. Bring printed permit and asbestos material to landfill on date indicated.
