Dane County Landfill Prairie Seed Collection

Did you know there is 40 acres of native prairie planted on the closed portion of the Dane County Landfill? This prairie was established in 2017 as part of Dane County Waste + Renewables' mission to return the space to habitat for bird and insects - and eventually create publicly-accessible park space. For the second time, we're inviting the public to visit the prairie and harvest seeds on behalf of Dane County Parks for future planting events at prairies around the county!

Join Dane County Department of Waste + Renewables and Dane County Parks for a special seed collection event beginning at 9:00am on September 25th. Fall is a beautiful time to get outdoors in southern Wisconsin and this event offers a unique opportunity to view and interact with the Dane County Landfill prairie ecosystem!
